Career FAQs

Whether you’re just starting out in this industry or you’ve been working as a technician for a while, we are transparent about our business and happy to answer any and all of your questions. To make it easier for you to apply for the job you want, here are a few common questions answered by our team!

Absolutely – your pay here at LaMettry’s does depend on your level of experience and skill level, but it can range from $70,000 – $120,000 per year or more.

It all depends on your priorities and preferences. Typically, however, signing bonuses are a gimmick to get you through the door. They are often difficult to achieve, require you to sign a contract, and are paid out over a period of time. Instead, we offer a 401k match, paid holidays and time off to ensure work-life balance for all our staff.

You need a high school diploma or GED certificate to become a qualified body tech, and most educational institutions in this industry require their students to be at least 16. That said, you can certainly work toward this career early on through vocational training and apprenticeship.

It depends on your level of experience (whether you’re at an entry-level tech job or an A- technician) and the skills you have. You can work on repairing and restoring any part of the damaged vehicle’s body, use a range of advanced repair tools and methodologies, and work with other technicians specializing in specific repair techniques.

Although we encourage and value independent thinking and innovation among our employees, you do need industry qualifications and training to become a technician. Remember that customers want to know that they are leaving their vehicle in the hands of an expert with all the right credentials.

Working with us means you can obtain regular training and become a qualified repair tech. You need a high-school diploma or GED, and you need the right kind of industry training to perform this kind of work.

It varies from one body shop to another! If you like the idea of a collaborative environment with ample support and mutual respect as well as the most advanced tools of the trade, then you’re in the right place at LaMettry’s.

If you’re driven by a desire to help people get back on the road safely and you enjoy repairing vehicles and restoring them to their pre-accident state, then this is your dream job. It’s a noble profession that entails hard work and continuous learning, and it’s exceptionally rewarding seeing the impact you have on your community and your colleagues.

Much like with any other position, it will depend on your expertise and experience, but you can expect to earn from $60,000 – $90,000 annually.

This position requires a combination of different skills. You should enjoy communicating with customers and insurance adjusters, be a good negotiator, and have a good grasp of collision repair methodologies.

It depends on the body shop, but also on your starting position. You can work your way from an entry-level tech position to become a specialist in any segment of this trade (such as paint repair expert, parts manager, refinisher, etc.), and over time, take on a managerial position for an entire location. That means you can start as a detailer and grow into a manager with your own team in time!

When you’re just starting out, you can expect to gain training in vehicle inspection, performing diagnostics, as well as supervised vehicle repair. With LaMettry’s, that means you’re always welcome to ask for guidance and support while you’re in training, to make sure you’re on the right track. It’s in everyone’s best interest for entry-level technicians to master their skills from day one, so the whole team participates in this process.

Like with any other calling, working as a technician has many ups and downs, all depending on your personal preferences, but also the work environment you choose. That’s why we do our best to create the kind of culture that nurtures appreciation and ongoing improvement, so that you always know we value your work and dedication. Being a body technician requires all kinds of investments – but the returns, in our view, are immeasurable and invaluable.

We are always looking for members to add to our growing team! LaMettry’s has ten body shops in different areas in order to provide a superb service to all customers, and you’re welcome to peruse all our open positions in all ten locations. If you can’t find one that suits you in the location you prefer, you can download our employment application, email it to us when you fill it out, drop it off at one of our collision centers, or mail it directly to us.

Factoring in all the growth and innovation in the automotive industry – a bright one! Manufacturers continue to advance and create more resilient vehicles as well as smarter, better repair methods. With more people investing in vehicles, more repair jobs open up, as well. It seems that we have chosen one of the most promising industries with the power to create safety at every turn, and we’re happy to know you’re considering joining our ranks.

From Chanhassen to Maplewood, stop by any of our ten locations for a free estimate. You’ll find us there during our business hours, Monday through Friday, from 7:00am to 6:00pm.

We encourage all customers to book an appointment before coming in to ensure the best customer experience possible.
